Our story

Background & History

The Organization for Humanitarian Assistance and Development (OHAD) grew out of a vision of ending poverty and social injustice in Afghanistan. It was founded by a team of Afghan professionals and volunteers and formally registered with the Ministry of Economy on 21 November 2020 under license number 5029.

OHAD's first programs provided humanitarian assistance to returnees, internally displaced people and poor and vulnerable families, together with advocacy and emergency response in the eastern region of Afghanistan.

Since then OHAD has shifted from direct service provision toward enabling poor and vulnerable communities to lead their own development, with an explicit focus on the well-being, social position and rights of women and girls.

Our Vision

To work as an effective, reliable, innovative and pioneering organization in the field of community development and the reduction of vulnerability.
